In Muravera the countdown has already begun: the Citrus Festival is ready to take center stage again with its 52nd edition, an event that every spring sets the whole area in motion again and draws thousands of visitors. On 19 April 2026 the town will once again turn into a great open-air theater, with the traditional parade crossing the historic center amid colors, music and costumes that tell the story of authentic Sardinia.
The event, created in 1961 to promote citrus production in Sarrabus, is now one of the Island’s best-known folk events. The latest editions have exceeded 30,000 attendees, confirming a formula able to combine tradition, economic promotion and tourist appeal. Tapestries, flower carpets, stands of local products, exhibitions, conferences and shows make up each year an immersive route that blends culture and local identity.
Citrus fruits remain at the heart of the festival: oranges, lemons and mandarins that have made Muravera a symbol of quality and agricultural know-how. Around them develops a narrative that touches the deepest roots of the area, weaving together memory, community and innovation in farming practices.
For the Municipality this is an unmissable event. The mayor Salvatore Piu stresses that «the Festival is not just an event, it is our identity card: it brings to the streets the work of farmers and the history that binds us to our land». He also adds that «every folk group, every musician and every traditional mask help build a collective story that goes beyond folklore». And about the parade he has no doubts: «It is the moment when Muravera shows its best side, when the community comes together and recognizes itself».
